Self: One of Life’s Biggest Investments
It’s no secret, nor should it come as a surprise to those that know him, that Libertas leader Justin Thorstad is highly dedicated to becoming the best version of himself. A commitment he admits takes practice day after day. However, he will also be the first to say that dedication to one’s own self, and to his or her own betterment, it truly one of life’s biggest investments — with incredible ROI. Here, Justin shares some of his insight into the investment all people can make to themselves.
“Investment in yourself is the highest and best area to focus on. When you transcend the parts of your lower self, you create a stronger connection to your higher self, you get to touch your own inherent divinity,” he explains. Investing in one’s self is about self-love… and not just the kind that can be gained by getting one’s nails done or making a new purchase. “True self love is literally becoming someone new. If you love yourself enough to pull your mind out of the body to redirect your focus and powerfully create the life of your dreams, that is true self love.” While getting there takes an investment — of time, commitment, dedication and practice — Justin contends that investing that time and energy into increasing self (awareness, intellect, etc.) is the highest form of self-love.
“Givers gain, yet you can’t give what you don’t possess,” he says. “I desire to be fit for service so that I may be of service, perhaps I shall give to myself, first. In this way, I’m filling my own cup so that I may share the abundance of overflow with everyone.” He goes on to explain that anything he has ever attempted to take from the external in order to fill a perceived void or lack has never lasted, and at times he admits he became attached to the methods he thought would fill that lack. He worked through this via meditations to release old triggers, healing wounds by overcoming emotional patterns of the past and moving forward with the energy of (and investment in) future self.
Justin encourages everyone to invest in themselves, beginning with loving themselves enough to commit to becoming their best selves. This starts with building in the time and space into every day to give to one’s self, to sit in silence and learn about one’s self and to discover one’s self. “Fall more in love with yourself, the greatness you are and the beauty that’s already within,” he says. During these dedicated times of silence, he also advises people discover not only what elevates their vibe, but also what lowers it. Learning to pay attention to and be mindful of the times when a dip comes can help people return to their high vibe state.
When Justin experiences a dip, he brings himself back to a place of high energy with a memory of excitement. He suggests everyone can do this with some practice — to go back to a memory and recreate that feeling to access at any time. It’s something he reveals will take practice, all day every day. But he also notes that it’s a choice. He believes people should love themselves enough to invest in the time and practice that it takes to fully embrace those high vibe, high energy good feelings over the ones that seem automatic like fear, doubt, anxiety, sadness, anger, and stress.
“If you carry those negatives around, remember that you have a choice. You can choose to feel joy, love and abundance,” He says, adding: “But do you love yourself enough to be responsible for that choice and then to practice it again and again and again?”
Justin believes the self is one of life’s biggest, and greatest, investments. So why not commit to that investment and put in the effort on the path to becoming one’s own version of their best self?
